Disability Onset Age For ABLE Accounts Eligibility To Increase To 46 Years In January 2026
The onset age of a person’s disability for eligibility for Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) accounts that enable tax-advantaged savings to pay for future care needs is increasing from the current 26 years to 46 years as of January 1, 2026. As a result, an additional six million people, including one million veterans, will have access to ABLE programs, according to a blog post sponsored by the Social Security Administration (SSA).
