Pennsylvania Reports Increased Child Abuse Allegations, But Fewer Substantiated Allegations Between 2023 & 2024

In 2024, there were 41,070 reports of suspected child abuse in Pennsylvania, according to a report by the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS). While this is an increase from the 40,301 reports in 2023, the percentage of substantiated suspected child abuse reports decreased from 11.7% in 2023 to 11.6% in 2024.

In 2024, Pennsylvania saw a continued trend toward pre-pandemic reporting patterns, the report stated. A total of 41,070 Child Protective Services (CPS) reports were received in calendar year 2024, the fourth straight year of increase since 2021, but not yet fully reaching . . .
