Severe Staffing Shortages At Veterans Health Administration Facilities Increased By 50% Between 2024 & 2025

Severe occupational staffing shortages at Veterans Health Administration (VHA) medical center facilities increased by 50% between 2024 and 2025, according to a review by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Office of Inspector General (OIG). In fiscal year (FY) 2025, VHA facilities reported a total of 4,434 severe occupational staffing shortages, a 50% increase from FY 2024, according to the VA OIG. All 139 VHA facilities identified staffing shortages. The VA OIG made no recommendations in its report.
