Prevalence Estimates Of Childhood Disability Vary Widely, From 11% To 23%, Depending On the Identification Method Used
Using four disability identification strategies, a recent research letter identified the prevalence of childhood disability as varying between 11.1% and 23.0%, depending on which disability identification strategy is used. Finding that limited overlap exists between strategies, the researchers suggest that caution is needed when interpreting disability identification research based on a single approach. The use of disability identification data for needs assessments, resource allocations, and targeted interventions should be done with care, and the use of more than one identification strategy is recommended, the researchers concluded.
