About 41% of the approximately 5 million Medicaid expansion beneficiaries at risk of disenrollment due to upcoming federal work requirements have three or more chronic health conditions, according to a recent study. The work requirements included in the 2025 Federal Budget Reconciliation Bill (House Resolution 1–One Big Beautiful Bill Act) state that Medicaid expansion beneficiaries (low-income, non-disabled, childless adults) must work or volunteer for at least 80 hours per month to maintain Medicaid eligibility.
