Tribal traditional healing practices are reimbursable for Medicaid coverage in Arizona, California, New Mexico, and Oregon, under Medicaid waivers. Coverage is supported for traditional health care practices received through Indian Health Service (IHS) facilities or facilities operated by Tribes or Tribal organizations, according to the waivers.
Arizona’s waiver went into effect on October 1, 2025. Traditional healing services may be provided in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
