California Reports Progress Eliminating Subminimum Wage For Adults With I/DD

California has championed the idea that all workers, including those with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), deserve the opportunity to earn a fair wage in a meaningful job. As a result of moving away from policies that allowed individuals with I/DD to be paid less than the minimum wage, no California resident with I/DD was paid subminimum wage as of January 2025, according to a report by the California State Council on Developmental Disabilities.
