More Children With Autism Report Gastrointestinal Symptoms Vs. Typically Developing Children
A higher percentage of children with autism report gastrointestinal symptoms (GIS) than typically developing children, according to a recent study.
The study included 322 children with autism spectrum disorder and 153 typically developing children. The participants are enrolled in the University of California, Davis MIND Institute Autism Phenome Project (APP), an ongoing, multidisciplinary longitudinal study. Study participants were assessed at baseline when they were aged 2 to 4 years; two years later, when they were aged 4 to 6 years; and again at ages 9 to 12 years.
