Among adults aged 50 and older, 53% may legally qualify as a person with a disability due to a physical or mental condition, but only 19% identify as a person with a disability, according to a recent survey. The National Poll on Healthy Aging was conducted by NORC at the University of Chicago in February 2025 among 1,353 Michigan adults aged 50 to 95 and 2,528 non-Michigan adults aged 50 to 97. It was administered online and via phone. The poll is supported by Michigan Medicine, the academic medical center of the University of Michigan.
