California Youth Homelessness Declined By Nearly One-Fourth Between 2019, 2024

Youth homelessness in California declined by 24% between 2019 and 2024, despite an overall 24% increase in statewide homelessness and an 11% increase nationally, according to a recent analysis.

The 2024 California point-in-time (PIT) Count identified 9,902 youth younger than age 24, with 95% aged 18 to 24, and 5% minors. While the majority were unaccompanied, 8.6% were experiencing homelessness with children of their own.
