Three Risk Factors Account For Most Preventable Dementia Cases In The United States
Most preventable dementia cases in the United States are linked to three risk factors: high blood sugar, hearing loss, and lower level of education, according to a recent review of the evidence base for 12 modifiable lifestyle or health-related dementia risks. Addressing the most common risk factors could minimize dementia cases nationwide, the researchers stated.
The analysis considered factors identified by the 2020 Lancet Commission on Dementia as raising the risk of developing dementia. The researchers conducted a state-by-state analysis to identify where interventions to reduce dementia risk could be most effective.
