Social and health care costs for the nearly 3.1 million people with schizophrenia in the United States were estimated at $366.8 billion in 2024. Direct costs were estimated at $75.0 billion, with about $36.7 billion for health care. Indirect costs, such as lost productivity, premature mortality, and unpaid caregiving, were estimated at $291.8 billion.

The estimated $75.0 billion in direct costs accounted for a $13.9 billion cost-of-living offset. The unadjusted direct costs were estimated as follows:

$36.7 billion was due to health care.
