Federal Settlement Addresses Institutional Placement Of Foster Youth With Disabilities In Alabama
On February 3, 2026, the Alabama Department of Human Resources (ADHR) entered into a preliminary federal class-action settlement addressing the state’s use of institutional care for foster youth with disabilities.
The settlement class includes all children adjudicated as dependent in Alabama who have, or have a record of, a mental health impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities.
