ICE Plans To Increase Detention Capacity To 92,600 Beds
By the end of fiscal year 2026, under its Detention Reengineering Initiative (DRI), U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) intends to implement a new detention model designed to increase capacity to 92,600 beds. Under the DRI model, ICE plans to acquire and renovate non-traditional facilities built to support detention operations. The model outlines eight large-scale detention centers, 16 regional processing centers, and acquisition of 10 existing “turnkey” facilities where ICE ERO already operates. The total cost is estimated at $38.3 billion, according to the DRI document.
