New York OPWDD Launches Home-Enabling Supports Program To Expand Use Of Assistive Technology For I/DD Population
The New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) launched a new program called Home-Enabling Supports (HES) for individuals living in uncertified community-based homes. The program provides streamlined access to technology and tools that can reduce participants’ reliance on in-home and community-based staff. Unlike the traditional assistive technology benefit, the HES planning and authorization design does not require bidding.
Covered technologies may include:
Assistive devices that support independent living, such as smart locks or fall detection sensors
Remote support for people 15 and older, such as emergency call buttons and two-way video
