Nebraska Audit Identifies Billing Irregularities And Potential Fraud In Medicaid Personal Care Program
An audit of Nebraska Medicaid personal assistance services (PAS) and personal care services for the year ended June 30, 2025, found instances of overbilling and insufficient documentation. The state’s billing system allowed PAS providers to submit claims without verification of the service location. In some cases, services billed exceeded authorized hours, exceeded the number of hours in a day, or were billed when the provider was working at another job.
The audit also faulted the state Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) for authorizing a PAS provider to perform services for three clients, totaling up to 118 hours . . .
