Percentage Of Schools Requiring Comprehensive Support Increased To 7.3%, GAO Reports
The percentage of public elementary and secondary schools requiring Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) increased from 6.5% in the 2019–2020 school year to 7.3% in 2022–2023, according to data from the federal Government Accountability Office (GAO). The number of schools designated for CSI rose from more than 5,700 to more than 6,900.
CSI designation applies to the lowest-performing 5% of Title I schools, high schools with graduation rates below 67%, and schools that fail to improve after prior targeted interventions.
