HHS To Restart Specialized 988 “Press 3” Line For LGBTQ+ Youth Following Congressional Funding Directive
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced in late April 2026 that it is working to restart specialized suicide prevention services for youth who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (or questioning), or other sexual orientations and gender identities (LGBTQ+), through the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, less than a year after those services were shut down. HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. made the announcement during an April 21, 2026, Senate hearing, stating that HHS “is in the process of relaunching” the hotline. A specific go live date was not stated.
