UnitedHealthcare To Reduce Prior Authorizations By 30% Before End Of 2026

UnitedHealthcare announced plans to reduce prior authorization requirements by 30% before the end of 2026. The changes will eliminate prior authorization requirements for additional services, including select outpatient surgeries, certain diagnostic tests such as echocardiograms, and some outpatient therapies and chiropractic care.

On April 24, 2026, UnitedHealthcare announced participation in an industry initiative to standardize electronic prior authorization submission requirements. More than 70% of UnitedHealthcare’s prior authorizations will be included in the new standardized submission process by year-end.
