From Basic Access To A “SUD 2.0” Model: RECADEMY Webinar Examines A Real-World Case Study In Addiction Treatment Transformation

Gettysburg, PA. (June 15, 2026) – As substance use disorder treatment providers face increasing patient complexity and growing pressure to deliver evidence-based care, many organizations are rethinking traditional treatment models. RECADEMY, an OPEN MINDS online learning collaborative, has announced the sixth webinar in its 2026 series focused on advancing evidence-based opioid use disorder treatment.

The webinar: “Breaking Through Adoption Barriers In Evidence-Based SUD Treatment: How KCS Health Center Expanded From Basic Access To A Fully Integrated SUD 2.0 Model,” will be held on June 16, 2026, and will feature Mario San Bartolome, M.D., MBA, MRO, FASAM, Medical Director of Substance Use Disorders at KCS Health Center. The session will be moderated by Stuart Buttlaire, Ph.D., Vice President of Clinical Excellence & Leadership at OPEN MINDS.

Their discussion will examine how KCS Health Center, a FQHC founded in Los Angeles in 1977 that serves complex, high-risk populations across Orange County, evolved from a traditional access-focused model into a more integrated “SUD 2.0” model designed to support patients with complex medical, psychiatric, and social needs through wraparound care, integrated behavioral health, telehealth access, workforce development, and long-term engagement strategies.

“Most organizations are no longer debating whether evidence-based treatment works,” said Dr. Buttlaire. “The challenge now is whether organizations are truly prepared to operationalize these models consistently in real-world clinical practice.”

Drawing from real-world experience within an FQHC setting, Dr. San Bartolome will discuss the operational and leadership decisions required to move beyond “good enough” care models, including how organizations can reduce barriers to engagement, strengthen workforce readiness, and build systems that support sustained recovery over time.

“Good access alone is not enough,” said Dr. San Bartolome. “The question organizations have to ask is: what happens after the patient walks through the front door?”

The webinar will also explore how organizations can create more individualized and responsive care models through integrated teams, peer support, telehealth engagement, care navigation, and coordinated treatment pathways that reflect the realities of patients’ lives.

This Session Will Explore:

  • Why “good enough” SUD care models still leave critical gaps
  • How KCS Health Center evolved from a basic access model into a fully integrated “SUD 2.0” model
  • Operational strategies for reducing workforce resistance and increasing adoption of evidence-based care
  • Leadership approaches that sustain long-term organizational transformation
