More Individuals With Cancer Being Hospitalized For Alcohol Use

Among those with cancer, alcohol-related hospitalizations in the United States have been rising steadily in recent years, according to a recent study. Out of 12,027,846 non-elective hospitalizations for those with cancer between 2016 and 2021, 15,205, representing 0.13% of all such admissions, were alcohol related. The number of alcohol-related admissions grew from 2,130 in 2016 to 3,200 in 2021, an average increase of 185 admissions per year.

Researchers analyzed trends and risk factors for alcohol-related hospitalizations among adults with cancer using the National Inpatient Sample (NIS) database for the years . . .
