26% Of Pennsylvania General Acute Care Hospitals Posted Negative Total Margins In Fiscal Year 2025
More than a quarter (26%) of Pennsylvania's 152 general acute care hospitals posted negative total margins for fiscal year 2025 (FY25), according to an analysis by the Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council (PHC4). Total margin represents the ratio of total income from all sources to total revenue. About 11% of hospitals posted total margins between 0% and 4%, while 63% posted total margins above 4%. Statewide, total margin averaged 8.87%.
