Australian Adults With Autism & Co-Occurring Neurodivergence Report Greater Mental Health Care Barriers
Adults with autism in Australia, particularly those with a co-occurring neurodivergent (ND) condition such as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), face more numerous and more severe barriers to accessing mental health care than their peers, according to a recent study. Those with autism and a co-occurring ND condition reported experiencing 76.7% of the barriers presented to them, compared with 65.5% among participants who were not neurodivergent, a statistically significant difference.
