Education Department Transfers Administration Of Special Education Programs To HHS Under Interagency Agreement

The U.S. Department of Education (ED) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) signed an Interagency Agreement (IAA) establishing an administrative partnership for special education and rehabilitative services. Under the agreement, signed June 15, 2026, ED's Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS), including the Office of Special Education Programs and the Rehabilitation Services Administration, will partner with HHS on administration of these programs.
