New California Penalties & Nurse Staffing Ratios For Acute Care Psychiatric Hospitals Lead To Closed Beds

New California-specific staffing rules for acute care psychiatric hospitals have resulted in hospitals closing beds to avoid violations and penalties, according to the California Hospital Association. The new penalties are due to California Senate Bill (SB) 596, which increased the dollar amount for penalties by treating each day of non-compliance as a separate violation.
