Worldwide, More Than 1,700 H.I.V. Treatment Sites Closed In 2025 After The U.S. Aid Cut

At least 1,700 human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) service delivery sites worldwide closed following disruptions to the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) in 2025, according to a recent report. More than 77% of implementing partners (IPs), the organizations that received PEPFAR funding to deliver HIV services, had at least one award terminated or delayed during the year. These terminations contributed to the closure of clinics, drop-in centers, and other service delivery sites, and staff terminations. Few organizations were able to replace the lost funding from other sources.
