28% Of Individuals Who Begin Psychotherapy In A Community Setting Drop Out Before Treatment End

Among 40,732 adults with depression who started individual psychotherapy in community-based care, 28.4%, or 11,571 people, stopped treatment early, according to a recent study. In practical terms, about 1 in 4 consumers did not continue beyond the study’s definition of treatment completion. For those who “dropped out” of treatment, 60.9%, or 7,052 people, stopped after only one session, 29.3% stopped after two sessions, and 9.7% stopped after three. Dropout was defined as attending one to three sessions within a month and then having no further psychotherapy for five months.
