California Medicaid To Cut Asset Limit In July 2027 By 84%, From $130,000 For A Single Person To $21,000
The California Medicaid program (Medi-Cal) will cut the asset limit for certain eligibility categories by 84% beginning July 1, 2027, from $130,000 for a single person to $21,000. The limit for a two-person household will fall from $195,000 to $31,000.
The change marks another reversal in California’s Medi-Cal asset policy. In 2022, the state increased the asset limit from $2,000 to $130,000 for an individual. California then eliminated the asset test entirely beginning January 1, 2024. The state reinstated the asset test on January 1, 2026, at the $130,000 . . .
