Public Spending On I/DD Services Increased Nearly $11 Billion From 2019 To 2023

Total public spending on services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) increased nationwide from approximately $93.7 billion in 2019 to $104.6 billion in 2023, an increase of nearly $11 billion, according to a University of Kansas analysis. The funding supported nearly one million people in fiscal year 2023, the most recent year with complete data. Spending increased for supported living, personal assistance, and family support services, while spending on supported employment declined slightly.
