CMS Removes 760,000 People From Marketplace Insurance Plans
On August 31, 2026, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) canceled approximately 315,000 federal Health Insurance Marketplace enrollments covering more than 760,000 people. CMS claimed the people were fraudulently enrolled. Factors used to select people for disenrollment included lack of health care use, applications without a Social Security number, immigration status, and “other factors.”
The agency is also temporarily restricting new agent and broker registrations and implementing additional enrollment verification requirements to prevent future unauthorized enrollments.
