CMS Renews D.C. Medicaid Waiver Through 2031, Adds Coverage Of Pre-Release Services
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) approved a five-year renewal of the District of Columbia's Whole-Person Care Transformation Section 1115 demonstration, continuing federal Medicaid funding for covered services provided to beneficiaries with substance use disorder (SUD) and/or serious mental illness (SMI) during acute inpatient stays in institutions for mental disease (IMDs). The renewal also authorizes D.C. to receive federal Medicaid funding for certain pre-release services for eligible incarcerated individuals. The demonstration is effective October 1, 2026, through September 30, 2031.
The new reentry authority allows D.C. to receive federal financial participation . . .
