Illinois House Bill 1046 To Preserve Offender Medicaid Eligibility During Periods Of Incarceration Or Detention

On August 5, 2013, the Illinois House published a bill amending the Illinois Public Aid Code. The bill addresses eligibility for medical assistance during periods of incarceration or detention. The bill states that the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services is not to cancel a person's eligibility for medical assistance solely because that person has become an inmate of a public institution; 2) the Department may adopt rules to permit a person to apply for medical assistance while he or she is an inmate of a public institution; and 3) the Department is not responsible for medical assistance . . .
