Utah Enacts Autism Insurance Mandate For Individual & Large Group Plans Starting January 2016
On April 1, 2014, Utah Governor Gary Herbert signed Senate Bill 57 (SB57) into law, amending the state Insurance Code to provide health benefit plan coverage for the treatment of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) for children between the ages of two and nine years. Individual or large group plans offered or renewed on or after January 1, 2016 must offer the ASD coverage. Utah is the 35th state in the country to enact autism insurance reform.
As defined in the bill, the “treatment for autism spectrum disorder” that is covered under SB57 includes evidence-based care and related equipment prescribed . . .
