Connecticut Reaches Proposed Settlement To End Nursing Home Placements For Individuals With Mental Illness
On April 30, 2014, the State of Connecticut announced it had reached a proposed settlement agreement to a 2006 class action lawsuit challenging the state’s lack of housing and community-based services for individuals with serious mental illness (SMI), which resulted in high use of nursing homes. A fairness hearing is scheduled for July 1, 2014. The state agreed to move eligible nursing home residents with mental illness to community settings and supportive services within 18 months after the settlement is approved by the court.
