What Are Peer Recovery Support Services?
In October 2009, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) released a paper describing peer recovery support services for people in or seeking recovery from a substance use disorder. Peer recovery support services are designed and delivered by people who have experienced both substance use disorder and recovery. The paper addresses peer leaders and the Peer Service Alliance; volunteer and staff peer leaders; adaptability of peer recovery support services; cross-project principles; and the values of peer recovery support services.
