One-Year After New Mexico Medicaid Behavioral Health Fraud Investigations, Only Two Investigations Completed; Both Organizations Cleared
On May 6, 2014, the New Mexico Attorney General announced that it had completed the second of 15 investigations of behavioral health provider organizations accused of committing an estimated $36 million in Medicaid fraud in June 2013. The Attorney General reported that its investigation of Easter Seals El Mirador found overbilling of $34,126, but no actionable evidence of fraud. These findings are similar to the outcome of the investigation into The Counseling Center, which was cleared of fraud charges in January 2014, although $19,000 in overbilling was identified.
