This proposed rule released on May 20, 2014 by the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) for Health Information Technology changes the Medicare or Medicaid Meaningful Use incentive programs to allow participating provider organizations to use the 2011 edition of certified electronic health record (EHR) technology to attest for Stage 1 or Stage 2 meaningful use in 2014. Eligbile professionals, eligible hospitals, and critical access hospitals would be able to use either the 2011 edition certified EHR, the 2014 edition certified EHR, or a combination of 2011 and 2014 edition . . .
