Additional Federal Guidance Could Help States Better Plan for Oversight of Psychotropic Medications Administered by Managed-Care Organizations
In this report released on May 22, 2014, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) reported the results of a five-state review of case records for 24 children in foster care in Florida, Massachusetts, Michigan, Oregon, and Texas. Each child was prescribed psychotropic medications. For this report, the GAO asked two child psychiatrists who conduct mental health research and work on issues related to foster care to conduct clinical reviews for a sample of 24 cases.
