Community Health Centers Double Health Information Technology Use Between 2009 & 2013, EHR Adoption Rate Outpaces Other Provider Types

Between 2009 and 2013, the percentage of federally qualified community health centers (FQHCs) with an electronic health record (EHR) system increased from 40% in 2009 to 93% in 2013. A higher proportion of FQHCs have an EHR system compared to office based physicians (78%) and integrated delivery systems (71%). About three-quarters of FQHCs reported having met federal meaningful use criteria, which is about the same rate as that reported by large non-physician-owned medical practices and integrated systems.
