Federal Review Of California Nursing Home Licensing Surveys Finds Incomplete Staff Health Examinations
During calendar years 2010 and 2011, California’s nursing homes failed to ensure that staff met state requirements for health examinations. Health examinations were not conducted for 30% of nursing facility health care staff statewide. For another 26% of nursing facility health care staff, the health examination was incomplete and missing at least one of the three mandatory components. During calendar years 2010 and 2011, California nursing homes had about 130,000 health care and non-health-care employees serving more than 13,200 Medicare and 61,800 Medicaid beneficiaries.
