Texas To Restructure CPS To Increase Time Caseworkers Spend With Families To 40%

On June 18, 2014, the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) announced plans to restructure child protective services (CPS) tasks to increase the amount of time caseworkers spend with families from the current 26% of the workday, to 40% of the workday. Other changes will be implemented to reduce the CPS staff turnover rate from the current average of 33% to a goal of 23%. By restructuring CPS, DFPS seeks to strengthen the CPS ability to respond to child maltreatment, and to improve the state’s ability to find permanent homes for children in foster care.
