San Francisco Adopts Laura’s Law To Implement Assisted Outpatient Treatment For Civil Commitments

On July 15, 2014, San Francisco County Board Of Supervisors (BOS) enacted an ordinance amending the health code to implement “Laura’s Law,” which will revise county civil commitment statutes to permit city and county courts to order adults with severe mental illness (SMI) to participate in an assisted outpatient treatment (AOT) program. On July 22, 2014, the ordinance was signed by the mayor of the City of San Francisco.
