Bundled Payments For Oncology Care Cut Costs By 34%
The costs of care for cancer patients treated by physicians who received bundled payments were about 34% less than predicted fee-for-service costs. The study was conducted with five volunteer medical oncology groups who received episode of care reimbursements for 810 patients treated for breast, colon, or lung cancer. The actual cost of care was $64.7 million. The predicted cost of FFS reimbursement was $98.1 million, based on data from a large national payer registry of cancer patients. There were no differences between the two groups on multiple quality measures.
