Certified EHR Systems Not Always Interoperable
Electronic health record systems (EHR) certified for Meaningful Use Stage 2 requirements are not always interoperable with other EHR systems, due to errors on Consolidated-Clinical Document Architecture (C-CDA) documents such as incorrect data, inconsistent data, terminology misuse, and element optionality through inclusion or omission. EHR vendors must demonstrate that their systems can read and exchange C-CDA documents in order to be certified for use by in Meaningful Use Stage 2, which began in October, 2013 for hospitals and January 1, 2014 for providers.
