Feds Indict Three For Roles In $12 Million Virginia Addiction Treatment-Urinalysis Insurance Fraud Scheme

On September 23, 2014, a federal grand jury in Virginia indicted three individuals on health care fraud and kickback charges for fraudulent billing of $12 million related to opioid addiction treatment and urinalysis drug testing. The indictment names the owners of Bristol Laboratories and Mountain Empire Medical Care, and a physician affiliated with Mountain Empire Medical Care. The federal government accused the individuals of providing office-based treatment with buprenorphine and requiring all patients to undergo a weekly urine drug screen, which was sent exclusively to Bristol Labs.
