Past Year Mental Disorders Among Adults In The United States: Results From The 2008-2012 SAMHSA Mental Health Surveillance Study

On October 8, 2014, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) released findings on the prevalence of specific mental disorders in adults. This report provides the first release of national estimates of specific mental disorders based on these clinical interviews, both for all civilian, non-institutionalized adults as well as by socio-demographic characteristics such as age and gender. The report presents data from the Mental Health Surveillance Study (MHSS) and clinical interviews of a national sample on the past-year prevalence of mood disorders, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, substance use disorders, adjustment disorder, and psychotic symptoms.
