GAO-14-523, Disabled Dual-Eligible Beneficiaries: Integration of Medicare and Medicaid Benefits May Not Lead to Expected Medicare Savings
In this report released on September 29, 2014, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) was asked to review Medicare and Medicaid data to provide Congress with insights about the potential for improving care provided to disabled dually eligible beneficiaries, while also reducing spending. Disabled dual eligible beneficiaries are those who are under age 65 and who are deemed fully disabled by the federal Social Security Administration, and who qualify for Medicare on the basis of their physical or mental disability and who meet Medicaid income eligibility criteria.
