Tennessee KIDS COUNT: The State Of The Child 2013

In this report released December 4, 2014, the Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth (TCCY) recommended that the state increase early education funding to ensure that children enter first grade developmentally ready to learn. The TCCY presented state data about Tennessee spending on services for children under age five, and how Tennessee compares to other states. In state fiscal year 2012-2013, children under age five represented 27.3% of all Tennessee children. Tennessee’s expenditures for education totaled $1.14 billion, and 9.7%, $225 million was for children under age five. Total state expenditures were $9.3 billion . . .
