On February 3, 2015, the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will implement new rules on provider enrollment requirements intended to deny enrollment or revoke billing privileges to provider organizations or suppliers with unpaid Medicare debt, felony convictions, or that have engaged in abusive billing practices. The new rules were issued on December 3, 2014.

The changes will allow CMs to do the following:

Deny enrollment to Medicare professionals, provider organizations,, suppliers, and owners affiliated with any entity that has unpaid Medicare debt. This provision is intended to prevent people and entities that have incurred substantial Medicare debts . . .
