Vermont Will Not Pursue Single-Payer Health Care Plan
Vermont’s Governor Peter Shumlin has decided to not pursue a single payer health care plan, called Green Mountain Care, after delivering the cost of the program to the state legislature on December 17, 2014. The single payer system is expected to cost $4.34 billion in 2017 with the federal government accounting for $1.75 billion of the cost, and the state accounting for $2.59 billion of the cost. By 2020 the program is predicted to begin running a deficit of $86 million.
The state’s portion of the program would be funded through an 11.5% payroll . . .
